Film project shines a light on young people’s lives

Six young care care-experienced people got the chance to show off their creative talents in our Reel Lives film project.

The pilot, which took place during the school holidays, gave Barnet care-experienced young people an opportunity to express themselves creatively, learn new skills and meet other people.

During the project, the young people learned film fundamentals including storyboarding, filming and editing. The project was kindly funded by the Barnet Community Innovation Fund.

The short films were screened at the Phoenix Cinema, East Finchley, in October 2022, which was a great opportunity for these young people to network and see their work on the big screen!

Jasmine, a care-experienced young person who took part in the film project, said: “I really loved my experience - it was amazing. I think it boosted my confidence being in front of the cameras. Meeting new people and being able to engage with others was good and I have kept in contact with some people. I enjoyed being able to pick what we wanted our films to be about and having our say. Through the film we were able to tell our stories so other people in the same situation do not feel alone."
