Art Lives: Creativity That Connects

Art Lives is part of Live Unlimited’s ongoing commitment to empowering care-experienced young people through creativity and connection.

Led by care-experienced people for care-experienced people, the project created a supportive space at North Finchley’s ArtsDepot. Over eight weekly two-hour sessions, participants explored a range of art forms, from painting and sketching to clay work, using these as a tool for self-expression and reflection.
Rooted in peer support and shared experience, Art Lives helped to build confidence and a sense of belonging. Guided by those who understand the care system first-hand, the sessions offered young people the freedom to explore their creativity in a space where they felt understood.

A key aim of the project was to give back. Each artwork created was donated to foster carers to display in their homes, helping to make care placements feel more personal and welcoming. For children in care, these pieces serve as small but meaningful reminders that they are part of a wider community that cares.
To continue the project’s impact, prints of the original artworks have been sold at local festivals and community events, with proceeds reinvested into opportunities for participants and future Live Unlimited initiatives.

“Seeing young people grow in confidence as they developed their art has been such a privilege. Knowing that their work will bring warmth and positivity to children in care, and that we can share it more widely, means a lot. Art Lives shows the difference creativity can make when it’s shared between people who truly understand one another.”
