Live Unlimited's response to the Department of Education's care leavers' report.

Report: "You really are on your own."

Live Unlimited is deeply concerned by the findings of the Department for Education's report, 'You really are on your own': A study of the early deaths of young people who were in care. The report found that care leavers aged 18-24 are dying at a significantly higher rate than their peers and highlights the challenges many face when support drops away as they enter adulthood.

As an organisation working alongside care-experienced children and young people, we see the issues raised in this report as ones that demand attention from all those with a role in supporting young people in and leaving care.

We know that turning 18 does not mean a young person no longer needs support. Care-experienced young people deserve stable relationships, trusted adults and help that is based on their needs, not their age.

We hope this report leads to meaningful change and better support for young people leaving care. Today, we remember the young people whose lives were lost and those who loved and cared for them.
